International Student Services News

Welcome to the new ISS newsletter!

A Note from our Director, Pauline L'Ecuyer

It's hard to believe that September has come and gone, and the new academic year is already well under way! The staff at ISS has been working hard all summer to put together an assortment of great workshops, webinars, and events for this academic year; we look forward to having you join us! We're also pleased to introduce the very first edition of the new ISS newsletter; this is YOUR newsletter, so if you have any suggestions about how we can make it even better, please let us know.

Happy reading, and best wishes for a great start to the academic year!

Pauline L'Ecuyer, Director ISS

Upcoming Workshops:

Get ready for your first winter

Winter 101 workshop

Tuesday, October 13 (4 – 5pm, Brown 5001)
Monday, November 9 (12 – 1pm, Brown 5001)

Get ready for your first winter in Montreal! At both of these workshops we will discuss how to stay warm, shop for winter clothes on a budget, winterize your apartment, and ways to enjoy the city (despite the snow!) Timbits & hot cocoa will be provided, and a representative from Counselling Services will also be on hand to provide tips about how to make the most of your winter term. No registration required.

Winter Coat Project

Don’t forget about the Winter Coat Project run by MORSL! If you don’t have a good winter coat yet, we have a solution. Starting October 19, you can pick up a FREE lightly-used winter coat donated by a member of the McGill community. Click here for more information!

The International Buddy Program

In early September we had a great time at our largest Buddy Welcome Event ever with 400+ attendees, all of whom play a vital role in McGill’s oldest mentor program! We have currently matched more than 900 students with over 600 volunteers! Thanks so much to everyone who came.

We’re still recruiting Buddy Volunteers to pair with new international students on a rolling basis, and WE NEED YOUR HELP.

If you are a returning McGill student, please sign up to be a Buddy Volunteer here! If you are a NEW international student at McGill, sign up to have a Buddy here!

i-Week is a campus-wide, week-long event designed to highlight, and celebrate, the international and multicultural nature of the McGill community.   Activities will include international keynote speakers, panel discussions, banquets, dessert workshops, film screenings, dance performances, food fairs, art exhibits, fashion shows, and much more!
