Matali Crasset

Person:

Matali Crasset

Non-conformist designer Matali Crasset continuously pushes the boundaries of contemporary design questioning the archetypes that determine the way we interact with the objects and spaces in our lives. The project-scope of her namesake studio is vast, with a body of work reaching from the meta to the micro – be it the Feral House Nichoir, the French woodland boutique hotel; the ‘Double Side’ desk chair for Danese, designed in collaboration with Italian elementary school students; or the Laguiole pizza/cake server designed for Paris Pastry Chef Pierre Hermé. Matali has worked with a wide range of established furniture and product companies including Dornbracht,Tefal and Edra. She currently focuses on projects that encourage participation, on both local and global levels, in both rural and urban settings.

Presented by the Embassy of France, see Matali Crasset in the always insightful and inspirational Azure Trade Talks series held on Friday January 27th, 2012.

102.1 the edge Boardroom by Quadrangle Architects

Rock and Roll is here to stay…at least in the 102.1 the edge boardroom at Corus Quay. Rick Mugford and Caroline Robbie of Quadrangle Architects, created spaces for twenty-two of the media giant’s key brands including the edge 102.1; the radio station known in the 70s and 80s for discovering local and international bands. Caroline and Rick turned to Caroline’s personal collection of over three hundred posters creating a patchwork wallpaper featuring the likes of The Police, Iggy Pop, Bow Bow Wow, James Brown, along with local punk and art-rock bands like the Viletones and The Hummer Sisters. This cultural landscape of the music from that time period, as well as the rest of the project, have won several awards, including most recently the DX Gold Award for Interior Design. Other Quadrangle projects include 299 Queen West (CTV headquarters), BMW Toronto, and The Candy Factory Lofts. Next up? Check out what Rick and Caroline poster the walls with this time around as part of IDS 12’s How do you live? A TAS Designbuild Feature presented by National Bank.
